I-94 expiry issued at POE. I-797 date ? or Visa Stamp date?

Hi, I have H1B Visa Stamp(with old employer) valid till Aug 2022 and I-797(with new employer) valid till May 2023. If I want to Visit India and return without going for dropbox appointment, What would be the expiration for I-94 which will be issued at the Port of entry ? Will it be Aug 2022 or May 2023 ?

CBP will issue I94 till the validity of your current I797 provided your passport is valid beyond May 2023.

No. Visa is only a travel document. Your status in the US is governed by I-94.
